Indoor Track and Field Wins Fourth Straight Division Championship
Regis's indoor track and field team won its fourth consecutive CHSAA A Division title with an outstanding showing at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
Regis was fueled by exceptional performances including Griffin Conway '28's first-place finish in the 3,200-meter race and third place finish in the 1,600-meter race. Adam Beckford '28 set a personal record while placing first in the 55-meter hurdles. Matthew Kang '26 led the way in the field events, placing first in both the shot put and place weight throw while being named the Field Events MVP.
Aidan McClure '26 placed second in the 3,200-meter race and third in the 1,000-meter race, while Colin Butler '26 placed second in the 1,000-meter race and was the anchor leg on the first place 4x800-meter race team alongside Eamon Prus-Shearer '27, Patrick Corrigan '27, and Xavier Neptune '27.
"Everyone preformed really well," said school counselor Mr. Christopher Febles, one of the team's coaches. "They knew they were going to work very hard, and we're proud of the way they showed up when they had to."
Language teacher and coach Mr. David Bonagura '99 P'25'28 said the team's excellent preparation contributed to the title.
"The coaches planned how we would approach this meet for nearly a month, and our athletes executed the plan perfectly" said Mr. Bonagura. "They showed tremendous heart and an intense desire to win."
