JV and Freshman Basketball Teams Win City Championships

Regis’s junior varsity and freshman basketball teams won their respective CHSAA Class B city championships on Saturday at Salesian High School.

The junior varsity team defeated Cathedral Prep 66-44 to cap a season in which it went a perfect 12-0 in league games. Alex Sudol ’28 led the team in scoring with a season-high 18 points, while Michael Calle ’28, Eddie Minson ’28, and A.J. Rivera ’28 each chipped in 14 points in a balanced attack.

The freshman team defeated Kennedy Catholic 53-28 to win its title in a strong team effort. For the first time this season, three players scored in double figures: Thomas Farrell ’29 led the team with 17 points, while Luke Brandon ’29 scored 14 and Christian Arboleda ’29 added 13. Austin Gaton ’29 and Will Quaglia ’29 also contributed strong defense in the win. The victory marked the third year in a row that Regis's freshman team has won the city title.
